1. Could you tell us your name and your job title?

Louisa Dobson, Inspiring Choices Programme Manager

2. Could you tell us about your background (i.e., past education / jobs)?

I have worked in Widening Participation for 8 years, and in my current role I manage the effective strategic development and delivery of projects. Alongside my work in Higher Education, I hold a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music and am an experienced singing teacher and performer. In 2016 I made history at York Minster when I became the first female adult musician to sing with York Minster Choir.

3. What is your favourite part of your job?

The thing I like most about my job is the variety as every day brings different challenges and opportunities. I particularly like the team environment and thrive on collaborating with other people.

4. What one piece of advice would you give to someone looking at their future education

I would encourage them to reflect on their skills and interests. What they are good at? What interests or excites them? Taking the time to acknowledge their strengths will be a really good starting point in considering what their future education could look like.

5. What is your favourite film or book

I love reading, and it is very hard to come up with a favourite book. My favourite author is Georgette Heyer, who wrote a lot of historical fiction. I have read almost everything she has ever written and re-read my favourites every year.

6. If you were an animal, what type of animal do you think you’d be

I think I would be a very happy cat, as long as I didn’t have to actually chase any mice and rats.
